Foundation Training (Breaking-in)Starting your young horse is one of the most important aspects of his training. It is the most intensive period of learning he will ever experience and therefore it is extraordinarily important that it be safe, methodical and progressive.
All horses learn the foundation responses in-hand before progressing to ridden work. The under-saddle process begins with a period of bareback bonding allowing the horse to become completely comfortable with the riders touch, before being introduced to the saddle. Foundation Training takes approximately 6-8 weeks depending on the maturity of the horse, and the level of training required by the owner. Horses are trained on straight lines and circles, they develop contact and in some cases the beginnings lengthening and outline. We are careful not to overload the horse. Relaxation is paramount. We welcome you to participate in your horse's progress at any time during the training. We always provide a lesson on your horse so you are familiar with the training, and ongoing support to help you continue on with the training at home. Contact us to discuss your requirements and to tailor a program to suit. |
